Few days back, one of my colleague posted this link,Lava on Ice.
Although, this seems quite intuitive experiment, it is amazing observation for how a gas is entrapped by lava formation. It may be a hint towards, how our fossil fuels stored in a way they are. I also read that, when lava meets up with ice/water, it leads to the formation of a beautiful stone called Obsidian glass.
Some of us may recognize it as Dragon glass, used in Game of Thrones.
While we are at it, in recent issue of Scientific American, What Really Happens When Lightning Strikes Sand,
shows a dummy fulgurite on a beach, but explains the mechanism of how electricity leads to hollow glass of silica in sand. Who can think, electricity, which rise from chaotic motions of clouds, can lead to such amazing structure.
